SPAM and clearly off-topic posts
« on: August 04, 2013, 02:03:24 PM »
I will immediately purge spam messages when I see them, and will also purge posts that are clearly not related to home automation or X10 products.

New members who make just one post that is clearly spam will be removed and banned from registering again.

There is a mod (actualy several) for Simple Machines forums to deal with spam.
version 2 was to have them included.
These mods will make your job easier when dealing with spammers.
Look for Bot Buster and Stop Spammer.
I run both these on my forum. ;)
X10 turned me into a Software programmer.
A warning label should have been added ;)

We now have one mod in place so many potential Spammers are caught before they can post.
However a few will slip threw. These will not only be banned here but also added to a database which all forums using this mod watch.
So logging onto another forum using the data base for anti spamming will not get access to that forum either.
Over 700 spammers have been auto filtered on this forum since this mod was put in place.
I love automation! ;)
Warning:
Off-topic posts are considered spam on many forums as well.
Jeff also has the option to add these users to the known spammer database as well!
